Description
Felice Gimondi was a professional bicycle racer during the 1960’s and 70’s. He
raced for Bianchi mounted teams during most of his career, and continued a
lifelong close association with Bianchi. He worked for Bianchi sponsored racing
teams in various roles and in later life worked as an ambassador for the Bianchi
brand. During his career Gimondi won all of the 3 Grand Tours and the World
Championship road race, amongst many other wins.
In 2012 Bianchi decided to produce a limited edition bicycle to celebrate
Gimondi’s 70th Birthday. 70 special bicycles were produced, all numbered, with
number 1/70 presented to Gimondi on his birthday in September that year.
The bikes were top of the line Bianchi Oltre XR’s with a very special paint
scheme that also included a listing of all Gimondi’s professional wins printed on
the down tube. The special saddle and seat post were also unique to the model.
The group set for all the bikes was the recently introduced top line Campagnolo
Super Record EPS electronic. The bike included an FSA Bianchi themed bar
and stem, Campagnolo Bora carbon wheel set, and look carbon blade pedals.
All bikes came with a commemorative box containing a certificate of
authenticity, a hard cover book celebrating the life of Felice Gimondi, and a
jersey with numbering matching the specific frame number.
This particular bike is number 11/70 and is a size 53cm. It was used by its
original owner for approximately 12 months. Once purchased by us in mid 2014
the frame set showed definite signs of its road usage. The original wheel set had
disappeared, this was replaced with a contemporary set.
The frame was then brought back to as new condition by the renowned Paint
my Bike organisation in Brisbane. The frame was finished with a final covering
clear ceramic protective coating to guarantee the preservation of the unique
paint scheme. The frame then remained unassembled and stored until very
recently. The EPS group set was used on another bicycle until being stored, and
then recently reassembled onto the Gimondi 70 frame.
The commemorative box, and the numbered jersey are included.
